HCD for MDH Staff
A four-day HCD capacity-building programme that equipped Management and Development for Health (MDH) staff to co-create PMTCT care solutions with adolescent girls and young women living with HIV.
The Challenge
As part of the six-year ENGAGE project with Karolinska Institutet, MDH needed to co-create a tailored package of interventions with adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) living with HIV to improve their engagement and outcomes in prevention-of-mother-to-child-transmission care — but first needed an internal team skilled in Human-Centered Design to lead that process authentically.
Our Approach
We trained 24 MDH staff and 5 coaches over four days in Dar es Salaam, taking teams through the full HCD cycle against a real challenge on building psychologically safe, trust-based coaching for AGYW. Teams interviewed real personas, synthesized findings into points of view, and rapid-prototyped concepts including an AI self-screening chatbot, a monthly disclosure-support model, and a peer-mentorship camp, closing with a dedicated coaching module to prepare staff for the field.
The Outcome
MDH staff left with four working, community-informed prototypes ready for field testing and a trained internal coaching team confident to lead the ENGAGE project's co-creation phase — moving the initiative from planning into an evidence-based, adolescent-informed design process.
