AI for Teens
Unlock the power of AI! Our weekly AI Training for Teens introduces young minds to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and tools like ChatGPT — helping students build digital skills for school, creativity, and future careers.
Programme Overview
This programme introduces secondary school students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) through a structured, hands-on, and beginner-friendly approach. Participants engage with modern AI tools, learn how to interact with AI systems effectively through structured prompting, and build simple AI-powered solutions without writing code — with an emphasis on practical learning, critical thinking, creativity, and responsible use of emerging technologies.
What You'll Learn
- Foundational understanding of how AI systems operate
- How AI is applied in real-world contexts
- Structured prompting to interact effectively with AI tools
- Building simple AI-powered solutions without writing code
- Critical thinking and responsible use of emerging technologies
Learning Outcomes
- Explain fundamental AI concepts in simple terms
- Describe how AI systems learn from data
- Interact effectively with AI tools using structured prompts
- Build a basic AI model without coding
- Evaluate AI outputs critically
- Apply ethical principles in AI usage
- Present a simple AI-based project
Curriculum
Five hands-on modules, from AI foundations to a final project presentation
- 1.1 Introduction to AI — definition of AI, AI vs Machine Learning vs traditional programming, brief history, and common misconceptions
- 1.2 AI in Everyday Life — recommendation systems (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube), streaming platforms, search engines, and smart assistants
- 1.3 Types of AI Systems (Simplified) — predictive AI, generative AI (ChatGPT, image generation), and classification systems
- 1.4 How AI "Thinks" — the Input → Model → Output model, data and datasets, and pattern recognition
- 2.1 From Rules to Learning Systems — rule-based systems vs. learning systems
- 2.2 Data and Model Quality — good data vs. poor data, "Garbage In, Garbage Out" (GIGO), and bias in datasets
- 2.3 Model Behaviour — training, testing, and why AI makes mistakes, explained through relatable analogies
- 2.4 Limitations of AI — lack of true understanding, dependence on data quality, and misleading outputs
- 3.1 Introduction to Prompting — what a prompt is and why different prompts produce different results
- 3.2 Structure of Effective Prompts — defining a role, specifying a task, providing context, requesting a format
- 3.3 Hands-On Prompting Exercises — comparing poor vs. well-structured prompts and iteratively refining them
- 3.4 Using AI Tools Effectively — ChatGPT, Gemini, and other generative AI tools, used correctly and responsibly
- 4.1 No-Code AI Platforms — Teachable Machine, Machine Learning for Kids, and other visual AI tools
- 4.2 Hands-On Project: Image Classification — collecting and labelling data, training, testing, and improving accuracy
- 4.3 Understanding Model Performance — correct vs. incorrect predictions and how to improve results
- 4.4 Creative AI Applications — image generation, voice synthesis, and music generation
- 5.1 Responsible Use of AI — bias and fairness, privacy, misinformation, and deepfakes
- 5.2 AI in Careers and Future Opportunities — emerging AI-related careers and skills for the future
- 5.3 Critical Thinking and AI Safety — questioning AI outputs and using AI responsibly
- 5.4 Final Project and Presentation — a mini-project (AI model, AI-generated content, or problem-solving) presented to the class
